Raw’s biggest story might have been the whole Kurt Angle plot line where Jason Jordan was announced as his long-lost son but the 3-hour broadcast ended with a #1 contender’s match to see who got a shot at Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. Braun Strowman interrupted the match and although we didn’t hear the bell actually ring to end the match, Braun’s devastation seemed to put a stop to things.
After Raw was over the WWE Network aired a special segment where Kurt Angle and Jason Jordan sat down with Renee Young to discuss their story. But before they went into the tale of how Jason Jordan found out his daddy was an Olympic Hero, Kurt Angle briefly addressed the situation surrounding the Universal Title.
If you blinked you might have missed it but Kurt Angle said he will clear up any questions concerning the Universal Title on next week’s episode of Raw. Then they went into telling the touching tale of a father/son reunion.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that it looks like WWE is going to go with a fatal four-way match for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam. When Braun Strowman entered the fray and demolished Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe that was obviously a warning shot to put The Monster Among Men over in a big way.
Meltzer went on to talk about how WWE might be setting up a multi-person title match for Alexa Bliss’s Raw Women’s Championship as well but if WWE did that then they would be duplicating the Universal Title Match. Of course that is likely because as Bryan Alvarez and Dave pointed out, WWE seems to book the same kind of matches all the time.
The initial planned Universal Title match at SummerSlam was Brock Lesnar vs Braun Strowman so it looks like they might be adding Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns into the mix too.
