Some releases from WWE are something fans can predict, yet others come out of nowhere. The news was precise and the message was short, but today WWE sent out a release saying: “WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar Austin Aries. WWE wishes Aries the best in all of his future endeavors.”
There hasn’t been any kind of word about exactly why WWE was sending Austin Aries his “best of luck in all your future endeavors” letter but it happened nonetheless. However, something makes us believe he wanted this release. (Update: The Observer confirms Austin Aries asked for his WWE release).
A lot of Austin Aries’ time in WWE was wasted on commentary due to an eye socket injury thanks to Shinsuke Nakamura. But he was actually used very well on commentary. In all honesty, his remarks were one of the best parts of having the cruiserweights on Raw.
When Austin made himself an in-ring entertainer once again as he jumped Neville and looked right for the Cruiserweight Championship things were looking up. People had high hopes for Austin Aries and the 205 Live show thinking he could be a tent pole for the division. Then Aries lost at WrestleMania to Neville on the kickoff show, and he continued to lose from that point onward.
A Double had the ability to run at the top of WWE and he still had plenty of gas in the tank even after dominating in the indie circuit for years.
As upset as fans might be that he won’t be toiling around in WWE anymore it’s a good day the be Austin Aries if you ask him. He might have a clause in his contract saying he can’t work for a certain amount of time, but that could only be time for him to jump start his reemergence in the world’s independent wrestling scene.
So don’t be sad for Austin because it’s all sunshine and bananas for him. It’s just curious and unfortunate this happened right after WWE signed his fiance Thea Trinidad to a contract.
