SummerSlam is in August but it’s still the beginning of July and WWE has two PPVs scheduled in an attempt to properly plan the Biggest Party Of The Summer. Great Balls Of Fire is this Sunday and Battleground is scheduled for the end of July. The Battleground PPV is setting up quite nicely and will feature a Punjabi Prison Match for the WWE Championship.

But Punjabi Prison Matches aren’t the subject of this article although they are historically awful. This is about John Cena because everything needs to be about John Cena, right?

Big Match John came back on the Fourth Of July as a brightly colored birthday present for America. He was excited to be back in a WWE ring and proudly pronounced he is not a part-timer, he is an all-timer. It was a really clever way of saying it’s something else yet also the same thing. Then Rusev came out and spoiled the homecoming.

The Bulgarian Brute was upset at Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan for not answering his video messages. He wanted to crush someone and he wanted to do it on a big stage. John Cena said he would fight Rusev right then and there.

John Cena proposed they put one flag on each side of the ring, one from Bulgaria and the other USA. Whoever gets to their flag first is declared the winner. What he described was a gold ‘ol fashioned flag match and he wanted to throw down in Phoenix. Rusev said he would fight Cena, but he would only do it on his terms. Then Handsome Rusev left.

On a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Live Bryan Alvarez noted this set up probably means Rusev will win his altercation at Battleground because all he has to do to win is grab a flag. Cena wouldn’t suffer a pinfall and his real estate would remain unharmed while Rusev could claim the hollow victory.

WWE needs to make something out of Rusev because he’s young and will be a full-time Superstar for years to come. He obviously loves the business and has made it a part of his family as not only is his wife on the same brand constantly battling for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, but they also have starring roles on Total Divas.
