The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York is advertising a very interesting match up for their March 20th Monday Night Raw taping through local adverting for the event. WWE will be in Brooklyn on March 20th, 15 days removed from the Fastlane event where Goldberg will challenge Owens for his Universal Title and KO is still being promoted as champion.
Of course this could always change as WWE often tries their best to avoid huge spoilers (albeit sometime they’re not totally successful), but PWInsider reports that Kevin Owens is advertised to put his Universal Title on the line against Roman Reigns at the event.
This is very interesting to say the least for a few reasons. Not only does it signify that Goldberg isn’t being promoted for the event when he’s supposedly going to be carrying Raw’s big red belt, but Roman is being put in a match that sees him still chasing the Universal Title.
Reports have run rampant that Roman Reigns vs. The Undertaker is somewhat of a lock at WrestleMania 33, but nothing has been mentioned of the feud since their encounter at Royal Rumble. It is possible that this match could have been scrapped, or maybe they’re just saving the build-up until after Roman and Braun’s match at Fastlane.
On the other hand, it’s been said that Goldberg is going to walk out of Fastlane as the Universal Champion. This would stand to reason seeing that he was just booked for the go-home show and Raw after Fastlane, but when it comes to WWE events the card is always subject to change. Many thought that Bayley wouldn’t be waking up this morning as Raw Women’s Champion, but they were wrong.
Either way, this is a very interesting piece of information to consider because this advertised booking directly conflicts with what some have seen as WrestleMania’s landscape for months now. We’ll just have to see where the Road to WrestleMania takes us at this point.
