The wrestling world is buzzing because Royal Rumble weekend is finally here. The stars of NXT will be showcasing their skills on Saturday night during NXT Takeover: San Antonio, and the stars of the WWE main roster will light up the Alamodome on Sunday.
There’s been a lot of speculation that we could see a few NXT stars debut in the Royal Rumble match this year, and Samoa Joe is one of the names that’s been making the rounds consistently over the past few weeks.
Samoa Joe wasn’t used during the last set of NXT tapings, and he’s not set to be a part of NXT Takeover: San Antonio. Takeover events are always huge for the NXT brand, but Joe’s lack of involvement this time around seems to indicate that his NXT career is winding down.
Friday night the stars of NXT battled each other in Dallas, and Samoa Joe took on No Way Jose in a singles match, which Joe won.
After the match Samoa Joe celebrated in the ring and then he looked down at his wrist as if to look at an imaginary watch, then he moved his wrist to his ear as the crowd chanted, “see you Sunday.”

Although it seems like a Samoa Joe Royal Rumble appearance is likely for Sunday, this wouldn’t be the first time that a NXT star has played with the crowd. After Finn Balor lost his NXT Title to Samoa Joe in 2016, he teased a main roster debut at live events for several months before he was actually called up.
Not only is Samoa Joe rumored for a Royal Rumble appearance on Sunday, he’s also rumored to be in the plans for a big match at WrestleMania 33, and you can get more on that below.
