Ever since she debuted on the main roster almost two years ago, Lana has had the WWE Universe wrapped around her finger, and at one point they even cheered her whilst she was belittling their country. This proves the talent that WWE has at their fingertips when it comes to The Ravishing Russian and finally, it seems WWE are set to capitalize on it.
Lana has been down at the WWE Performance Center and out at NXT live events over the past few weeks working on her in-ring skills in the hope that she will be used used as part of the Women’s Division on the main roster in the future.
Lana has only had one main roster match when she became the first female to ever make her in-ring debut at WrestleMania back in April last year, but WWE never followed this up, instead Lana went straight back to standing by her husband’s side on WWE TV.
Rusev now has Jinder Mahal and he has been seen many times on Monday Night Raw without Lana, so maybe WWE are thinking of allowing Lana to branch out on her own?
Lana recently spoke to Complex about her first NXT Live Event victory and her plans for the future, she said:
“I love my job and I love that I can work with Rusev – but I will go after that championship when the time is right. Those things don’t happen overnight – but when I step in that ring, I will be great. Just like when I’m on the mic, I know I can turn that whole crowd, that’s how I’m gonna be in the ring. I’m training, and I go to NXT to get my fix, but I’m the slow and the steady. This is a marathon, not a sprint.”
The real-life American talked about making her own in-ring debut on the main roster and being a part of the Women’s Divison, a place that is currently being run by Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte. It is thought that Lana would fit in well on the roster, especially since she has some incredible mic skills.
The wife of The Bulgarian Brute is a former actress with films like Pitch Perfect on her resume, and is a former dancer and gymnast which has already been shown with her incredibly unique ring entrance, she could incorporate these into her character if she is promoted to the main roster in a few months time and really make a difference.
Bayley, Sasha and Charlotte all have characters on the Raw roster, but if Lana continues with her current character then she would be a natural heel, but the WWE Universe would cheer her, so it would make sense for WWE to distance her from Rusev and allow her to create her own path.
She played a huge role in the storyline between Enzo Amore, Big Cass, Rusev and Jinder Mahal recently, but it feels like she should take a step back now and allow Rusev to move forward with his own character whilst she then does the same down in NXT.
She could easily become a likable character especially if she is taking to training as well as she took to her first match. WWE saw sparks of her talent when she was feuding with Brie Bella leading up to WrestleMania 32, she hit the former Divas Champion with her own finisher and even delivered an incredible roundhouse kick to both Paige and Summer Rae in the build up to the WrestleMania match.
It has been made evident for a while now that Lana has the ability to become a professional wrestler, but she has been needed by the side of her husband, but once their rivalry with Enzo and Cass is over it is likely that Lana will be allowed to go her own way.
It feels like Rusev could actually be holding her back right now, but if she does want to make it down in NXT and the main roster and then go on to win Championships like she’s stated, it seems that she will have to part ways with Rusev until they both win titles and become WWE’s ultimate power couple.
