WWE has been shaking things up with the NXT roster recently as Cruz Montana officially debuted, Grayson Waller returned to NXT, and Zilla Fatu also joined the roster.
Earlier this week Tony D’Angelo put the NXT Championship on the line at Heatwave when he defended the belt against Montana, Waller and Fatu in a fatal four way, and it was ultimately Waller who walked out with the gold.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select is reporting that the decision to put the NXT Championship on Grayson Waller at Heatwave came together quickly after Waller was moved from Raw to NXT.
It’s being said that the idea almost immediately was to get the belt on Waller once Shawn Michaels got clearance that Grayson Waller would be returning to NXT for the foreseeable future. According to the report there are a number of people who see a lot of upside when it comes to Grayson Waller being a top heel.
Regarding Tony D’Angelo, it’s being said that the title change is not an indictment of him. As of right now Tony D’Angelo has not been discussed for a main roster call up.
