Will Ospreay has been one of the top names in professional wrestling for years now, and he’s currently one of the top stars in All Elite Wrestling. Ahead of Ospreay officially signing with AEW in 2023, there was a lot of speculation regarding potential interest from WWE before Ospreay joined the All Elite Wrestling roster.

During a recent appearance on the Ariel Helwani Show, Will Ospreay confirmed that he did receive an offer from WWE before he signed with AEW. Ospreay noted that the deal involved him moving to the United States, and he didn’t want to do that. When asked if he would have considered signing with WWE if the deal didn’t involve him moving to the United States, Will Ospreay discussed some of the things he doesn’t like about WWE.

“Nah, I don’t know. I do respect it. I really do. It’s just I don’t like the way it’s filmed. I don’t like the wrestling behind it. I think it’s very minimalistic. It’s just like, I’ll never say never, like, because that’s what we kind of do in the industry now is we just want to make sure that we keep all of our options open for sure Just right now, in the format and how much fun I’m having in AEW and just how much freedom I have to be me, like, I don’t have anyone putting a script in my hand. I just have bullet points, and I go out there and I just waffle.”

When asked why he described WWE as minimalistic, Ospreay said, “I just think like the comparison in like our matches and our main event matches is very, very different. Like, one spear for them will be super satisfying. Honestly, I respect it. I wish I could get a spear like that. I wish I could, but it’s just not in me. I prefer what we do. I prefer taking people on rides and showing people different ways that I can get into a Styles Clash and the full contact of it. I’ve been seeing WWE recently, I saw this one clip and the girl missed her by flipping miles. It was like a country mile. But it’s not just the girls, it’s the guys as well. And I do wonder if they’re being kind of told, ‘we’re already making money, you don’t need to, like, kill one another.’”
