Sami Zayn has has quite the year so far in 2026 as he defeated Cody Rhodes to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion at Night of Champions only to drop the title to CM Punk nine days later. While Sami is still hovering around the title picture it seems that he will be out of action for some time.
PWInsider is reporting that the broken hand Sami Zayn mentioned on SmackDown last week during a segment with CM Punk is not a storyline, it is a legitimate injury. The hand injury is the reason why Zayn has been out of action over the last few weeks. As of right now there is no word on when Sami will be able to return to the ring.
Sami Zayn last stepped into the ring at SummerSlam on August 2nd when he faced off against Gunther, Kevin Owens and Finn Balor in a fatal four way match to determine the number one contender for CM Punk’s Undisputed WWE Championship.
Unfortunately for Sami, he didn’t win the fatal four way match as it was Kevin Owens who picked up the victory. Owens will challenge The Second City Saint for the Undisputed WWE Championship during this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
