WWE has released a number of wrestlers throughout the year and there’s no denying that some of the releases have been surprising. Many fans were shocked to see Kairi Sane among the names released as Kairi had been involved in an ongoing storyline with Asuka at the time she was cut.
After months of build up WWE decided to release Kairi Sane without resolving the storyline with Asuka, and Kairi Sane recently shared her thoughts on how things played out during an interview with Ring Plus Magazine.
“I think the people who supported me were building up frustration too, saying things like ‘I’m looking forward to Kairi’s big moment.’ That anticipation was my own motivation as well. I had finally recovered my true pro wrestling style, generated momentum for WWE, and worked hard with the determination to make a huge impact for both WWE and myself.
But then the thread snapped completely, and for a while, I couldn’t think of anything. That was how dedicated I had been-putting everything I had into WWE. I never cut corners, and I intended to fulfill the role given to me with all my strength. Having that storyline cut off right in the middle was what left the biggest regret.”
Kairi also shared her thoughts on potentially retiring when she added, “To be honest, if the storyline with Asuka and me had reached a proper conclusion, I might not have had any regrets. That was how much resolve I had going into it, and I gave it everything to make it exciting. But as I mentioned, it ended right in the middle of everything, so the idea of retiring didn’t cross my mind right away. I wanted to give it one last push until the very end. That’s why I couldn’t retire halfway through like this—not until I felt within myself that I had truly given it my all and done everything I could….So retirement never crossed my mind. Though, this release is probably the biggest setback of my entire career. But isn’t it great material for an autobiography? (laughs)”
