Roman Reigns won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42 when he defeated CM Punk and ever since then he’s had a target on his back. On the road to SummerSlam, Seth Rollins stepped up to challenge The Tribal Chief to a World Heavyweight Championship match at WWE’s biggest party of the summer, and Reigns agreed.
When it was time for Seth’s entrance he did a fake out as The Shield’s intro played then it cut to his own entrance theme. As soon as the music stopped the fans started chanting “OTC!” Roman Reigns made his entrance next to a big reaction from the crowd. After Roman made his entrance the fans started singing Seth’s song and Roman looked slightly annoyed.
Rollins and Reigns stared each other down for a while after the bell rang. They stood face to face and talked trash for a moment then backed up. Rollins countered everything Roman threw at him early on, but Reigns quickly turned things around. Roman went for the Superman Punch and Rollins countered then clotheslined him over the top rope. Rollins followed up with a dive to the outside followed by another. He went for a third which sent Roman into the announce table.
Seth Rollins cleared off the announce table then returned to the ring to break the count. He tried for another dive and Roman caught him with a right hand followed by a drive by kick. Rollins went into the crowd and Roman followed him as they battled back and forth amongst the fans.
Roman suplexed Seth on the floor then tried to spear him through the barricade, but Seth countered with a kick then hopped on the barricade, and jumped off as he hit Roman with a knee to the face. Seth did Roman’s taunt then tried to spear him through the barricade. Roman caught him, picked him up for a powerbomb then drove him right through the announce table.
The Tribal Chief cleared off the other announce table as Seth was trying to recover. He picked Seth up for another powerbomb and Seth reversed it with a powerbomb of his own to send Roman through the other announce table.
The referee started to count to ten as both men struggled to get up. They made it back into the ring with one second to spare and Seth connected with the Pedigree. Roman kicked out at two. Rollins went for the Curb Stomp as Roman jumped up and hit him with a Superman Punch. Roman covered him and Seth got the shoulder up.
Roman went for the spear and Seth dodged it so Roman ran head first into the corner. Seth followed up with a Curb Stomp and Roman barely kicked out before the three count.
Seth put Roman up on his shoulders and placed him on the top turnbuckle. The Visionary tried for a superplex as Roman fought back and knocked him off. Rollins hopped back up and finally got the superplex. He rolled through and tried for the Falcon Arrow as Roman applied a guillotine. Seth tried to fight out, but Roman wrapped his legs around Seth for leverage then brought him down to the mat. Rollins stood up with Reigns still attached to him he tried for a suplex and Roman got out of it then hit a spear for a two count.
The Tribal Chief started to get frustrated as he said, “I’m the one, he’s the two!” He talked trash to Seth as Seth motioned for him to bring it on. Roman tried for another spear and Seth countered with a spear of his own. Roman kicked out again.
Seth picked Roman up and hit him with a buckle bomb. He went for the Curb Stomp, which Roman avoided then Roman hit a buckle bomb of his own followed by a Curb Stomp. Seth kicked out as the fans went crazy.
Roman and Seth both got to their knees and argued. They got to their feet and exchanged strikes. Roman hit Seth and Seth accidentally knocked down the referee. Rollins referenced Dean Ambrose as he bounced off the ropes and did a clothesline. Seth tried to hit Dirty Deeds, but Roman reversed it an hit Dirty Deeds instead.
The Tribal Chief went for a spear, but Rollins dodged it and threw him into the referee. Rollins connected with the Stomp, but there was no referee. With the referee knocked out, Seth grabbed a steel chair and brought it into the ring.
Roman was on the ropes in The Shield chair spot as Rollins stood behind him. Reigns hit Rollins with the right hand then hesitated as he looked at the chair. He picked up the chair then dropped it and shook his head.
They stood face to face and pummeled each other. Seth started slapping Roman and Roman hit him with a few headbutts. Seth kicked Roman and Roman hit him with a big right hand. Seth connected with a superkick, Roman hit a Superman Punch, which Seth no sold. Roman went for the spear and Seth turned it into the Pedigree.
Rollins went for the Stomp and Roman dodged it. He tried again and connected then went to the top rope. Rollins tried for a Stomp off the top, but missed and Roman hit a spear followed by another.
Roman stood in the corner then connected with a third spear. The ref got back in the ring counted the pin as Roman Reigns retained the World Heavyweight Championship.
After the match Roman and Seth sat in opposing corners and stared each other down. Roman stood up and extended his hand for Shield fist bump. Seth put The Shield mask on the mat and they stood side by side as they fist bumped. Seth then left and Roman held the mask and stared at it as the show went off the air.
