The in-ring debut of Nick Aldis has been a long time coming and a few weeks ago it was confirmed that Aldis would be facing off against Gunther at SummerSlam. It was also announced that Nick Aldis had given up his role as the SmackDown General Manager when he signed the contract for the match.
Gunther made his way out into the arena first and when he it was time for Aldis to enter he walked out to “Morning Glory” by Oasis. As soon as the match kicked off Gunther put Aldis in a headlock then went to the outside and stood on the announce table as he taunted Aldis.
Nick Aldis managed to grab Gunther and pick him up for a big suplex. He went for the King’s Lynn Cloverleaf, but Gunther sent him over the top rope. Gunther went to the outside and threw Aldis face first into the ring post.
Gunther approached Mickie James who was standing in the front row with their son and he talked trash to Nick’s family. Back in the ring Gunther repeatedly chopped Aldis. Nick tried to fight back as he went for the King’s Lynn Cloverleaf again. Gunther got out of it and locked in another headlock. He broke it as he slammed Gunther’s head into the turnbuckle.
Gunther went to the top rope and Nick followed him up the ropes then connected with a superplex. The fans chanted “You still got it!” Aldis dropped Gunther with a clothesline and Gunther responded with a clothesline of his own, followed by another clothesline from Aldis to Gunther. Aldis hit Gunther with a running powerslam for a two count.
The Ring General went for a big boot in the corner as Aldis dodged it then went to the top rope. He connected with an elbow drop and went to the top again then connected with a second elbow drop.
Aldis finally locked in the King’s Lynn Cloverleaf, but Gunther grabbed the bottom rope. Gunthet tried to lock int he sleeper and Aldis applied a sleeper of his own. Gunther picked him up for a suplex and a powerbomb for a two count.
Gunther locked in the sleeper once again and Aldis tried to fight out of it as he got to his feet. Gunther once again wrestled him back to the mat and Aldis tapped out.
After the match Nick Aldis received a standing ovation as Mickie James and his son celebrated with him in the ring.
