Sami Zayn has been one of the top stars in WWE for years now and he officially solidified himself as a world championship caliber wrestler when he pinned Cody Rhodes to win the Undisputed WWE Championship at Night of Champions over the weekend.
For many Sami’s title win has been a long time coming, but it sounds like WWE originally wanted Sami’s big moment to take place at a much more high profile event.
Cory Hays of False Finish is reporting that WWE originally wanted Sami Zayn to win the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 43 next year in Saudi Arabia.
Now that Sami is the Undisputed WWE Champion he will surely have a target on his back. Oba Femi won the King of the Ring tournament at Night of Champions, and Femi is expected to confirm which champion he will be facing at SummerSlam during this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw.
Unfortunately for Sami it seems that his title reign might be a short one as shortly after he won the belt the WRKD Wrestling account quote tweeted the video of Sami winning the belt with a caption that said, “Don’t get too attached.”
