Former WWE Divas Champion Was Told To Lose Weight

In the world of professional wrestling there’s a lot of talk about physiques as the stars of WWE are constantly appearing on television. During the Divas era it seemed that WWE wanted the performers to be more lean, and that edict affected former WWE Divas Champion Celeste Bonin (formerly known as Kaitlyn).

While talking about her early days with WWE on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Celeste Bonin noted that as soon as the company hired her she was told she needed to lose weight.

“Anybody, any woman that was in the divas era during that time will probably tell you the same thing. As soon as I got hired, they told me to lose 10 pounds. So, it was immediate. And when I tried out, I was coming from competing on a bodybuilding stage. I was in pretty good shape. I wasn’t stage lean or anything, but I was in pretty good shape. And it’s just because I had more muscle.”

Celeste also noted that the situation led to some confusion on her end when she added, “There was a lot of confusion within me of what my wrestling style is. How should I come off on screen? And so, there was always that voice of ‘I need to be skinnier, I need to be leaner.’ And I also didn’t like watching myself on TV because I was like, ‘I could be leaner, I’d look a lot better.’ And because I didn’t have this exuding confidence in my physique, it showed in my posture, how I held my body, and how I wrestled.”

Bonin also recently shared her thoughts on a potential WWE return, and you can get more on that here.
