It’s no big secret that the tag team division hasn’t really been the focus on WWE television for some time now, but it seems that could be changing. False Finish recently reported that WWE is looking to rebuild the tag team division, and the company could possibly be looking to sign teams from other promotions.

Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer recently shared an update on WWE’s plan for the tag team division, and noted that there’s not much interest in outside teams at the moment, but new teams will stay together, and few NXT teams will likely be called up.

“Also, regarding tag teams, we are told WWE does not really have much interest in outside tag teams at the time, but there are newly-made teams on TV like Miz & Kit that will remain tag teams, and a few teams in NXT likely called up soon as well,” Alvarez wrote.

The timing of this initiative is interesting to say the least as WWE recently parted ways with a number of tag teams such as The New Day who were released after declining to renegotiate their contracts. Other teams such as the Motor City Machine Guns, Wyatt Sicks and Jeff Cobb and Tonga Loa of the MFTs were also let go.

Currently R-Truth and Damian Priest are the WWE Tag Team Champions on SmackDown, while Logan Paul and Austin Theory are the WWE World Tag Team Champions on Raw.
