On New Year’s Eve 2015 Sheamus posted the following tweet letting fans know he’s returning to the United States:

This gave many the impression that a possible WWE return wouldn’t be far behind. He’s been out for weeks now due to an injury but details are slim as to what the injury is and even less is known about his recovery time.
Well for what it’s worth as of right now Sheamus isn’t being advertised for any WWE events until after WrestleMania. The first event he’s being advertised for takes place on April 8th from Glasgow, Scotland.
It’s possible that Sheamus is heading back to the US to do promotional work for WWE while he recovers. Hopefully WWE will be releasing some details to the public soon about his injury status and recovery time.
