Last week on Friday Night SmackDown, Sami Zayn defeated Carmelo Hayes to become the new United States Champion after Trick Williams interfered. During SmackDown this week Trick Williams walked down to the ring with Lil Yachty and he cut a promo that was interrupted by Sami Zayn who told Trick he’s going to humble him at WrestleMania.
After a few minutes Carmelo Hayes joined the segment and he demanded a rematch for the United States Championship. Sami told him that his match with Trick is official, so if Melo wants a rematch he has to wait until after WrestleMania.
Sami admitted he felt bad about Melo losing the title after Trick interfered last week, so Hayes told him to make it right. He finally agreed to defend the United States Championship against Hayes later in the show.
Carmelo Hayes and Sami Zayn faced off in the main event as Trick Williams and Lil Yachty watched the match from ringside. At one point Carmelo Hayes jumped over the top rope onto Sami, and he started selling a knee injury when he returned to the ring.
Hayes managed to hit the First 48 and he went to the top rope for Nothin’ But Net, but he struggled to climb due to his knee. He jumped off the top rope as Sami moved out of the way and Melo tweaked his knee again. As the referee was checking on Melo in the corner Sami hit the Helluva Kick to pick up the win.
After the match Trick Williams and Lil Yachty beat Sami down to end the show.
