Over the last few weeks Randy Orton has been receiving advice from a mystery person, and WWE has been teasing the mystery person’s identity by showing clips of their phone calls. Ahead of Friday Night SmackDown this week Randy Orton confirmed that the mystery person would be meeting him in St. Louis.
SmackDown kicked off in a big way as Randy Orton made his way out into the arena the beginning of the show. The St. Louis fans gave Randy Orton a big ovation as he asked them what they want to talk about. He told his hometown fans that the next time they see him in the arena he’s going to be a 15 time champion.
However, Orton told the fans he’s not doing this for them, he’s doing it for himself, his family, and his real home. He then pointed to his family in the front row. Orton addressed Cody Rhodes and said that Cody isn’t a killer, and there’s no putting to bed the thing he’s awoken inside of him.
Cody’s music hit and The American Nightmare made his way down to the ring and started to brawl with Randy Orton. As Rhodes pummeled Randy Orton in the corner, Pat McAfee stepped into the ring wearing a RKO shirt and hit Cody with a low blow. McAfee continued to stomp Cody as Randy grabbed a chair.
McAfee said that he was asked when he was going to return to WWE, and he thought the business had passed him by. He continued as he told the fans that Randy Orton told him the business hadn’t passed him by, it’s just turned in a business none of us like. Pat said he asked Randy, “Who’s us?” McAfee said he’s talking about the Attitude Era fans who launched the company to new heights, and he said they’ve been forgotten about.
Pat talked trash about modern WWE and said that he doesn’t want to turn on TV and watch 5 foot 5 guys compete in 45 minute iron man matches when Randy Orton is around. As McAfee was talking Randy continued to beat Cody down. He confirmed he’s been the one on the phone, and he’s been telling Randy to kill everything. Pat said the business Cody is leading has been terrible and Randy is going to “save the f*****g business.”
After they finished beating Cody down WWE officials checked on Cody Rhodes in the ring as Randy Orton walked to the backstage area with McAfee. When the show came back from a commercial break McAfee and Orton got in a truck and left as McAfee said that sometimes you just have to remind people that they’re in the G.O.A.T. conversation.
