John Cena announced his retirement tour in the summer of 2024 and it kicked off in January of 2025. The former WWE Champion officially wrapped up his retirement tour in December when Gunther defeated him at Saturday Night’s Main Event, and his final year will likely be talked about for years to come.
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, John Cena talked about the process of putting his retirement tour and he noted that overall it took three years.
It’s something I wish I could do forever. I think the reasonable approach is to understand when it’s time to step away, and this was a process that took like three years. I had the idea, pitched the idea, fifteen months later we announced the tour, and then in a year we had the tour.
So I did have plenty of time to get in the space like, ok my in-ring performance for WWE is over. I thought we did an incredible year of business, and certainly the audience has talked about it, and I’m very grateful for that.”
