Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre have been feuding for months and for the majority of their feud The American Nightmare has had the upper hand. However, Drew’s luck changed during last week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown when he finally defeated Cody Rhodes to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
SmackDown has been built around Cody Rhodes as the babyface champion for some time now, and everyone is waiting to see how Rhodes will react to losing his title. While it doesn’t look like he’ll be going full heel, it seems that Rhodes could be undergoing a character change sooner than later.
When a fan asked how close we are to getting a Cody Rhodes heel turn, Cory Hays of Bodyslam responded with a tweet which said, “Not a turn but a character shift.”
The ending moments of the SmackDown main event saw Jacob Fatu interfere when he blocked Drew McIntyre from escaping from the steel cage. Fatu ended up brawling with Cody Rhodes and Drew won the championship when he exited the cage while they were distracted.
It was recently reported that Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre both pitched for the title change to take place on SmackDown, and that talent involved with the main event weren’t told about the direction for the finish until a few hours before the match.
