Vince McMahon is no longer a part of WWE, but his history with the company has come under a spotlight recently due to a shareholder lawsuit. While Vince resigned in 2022, he later returned to WWE in 2023 to pursue a sale and the company was then acquired by Endeavor.
After Vince McMahon resigned in 2022, Triple H took over as the head of creative, and there was a lot of speculation regarding how involved Vince was with the company’s creative plans when he returned in 2023.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Vince McMahon was still the final decision maker when it came to WWE creative well into 2023. The scripts were put together by the writing team with Triple H as creative head, but Vince McMahon had the power to change things and the final decisions for much of the year came from him.
Recently text messages that were revealed as part of the lawsuit showed that Vince McMahon texted Nick Khan about a change in creative plans for the WrestleMania 39 main event, but the exact details regarding the change were not mentioned in the conversation.
Diamond Dallas Page recently claimed that Cody Rhodes was originally told he was going to win at WrestleMania 39, but ultimately Roman Reigns retained and walked out with the gold.
According to the Observer, Roman Reigns was the one who pitched the idea of holding off dropping the title to Cody for another year. McMahon was reportedly the one who made the call to change the original plans as he was the ultimate boss at the time. It’s being said that Triple H was against the idea of changing plans at first, but ultimately came around and was not against the change in the end.
