A few months ago the unthinkable happened when AJ Lee finally returned to WWE. The former champion went on to team with CM Punk to defeat Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins at WrestlePalooza, and she’s set to compete in the upcoming women’s WarGames match at Survivor Series.
During a recent appearance on What’s Your Story? with Steph McMahon, AJ Lee recalled what it was like to work with CM Punk on TV before they were together, and AJ noted that Punk went off script during a backstage segment.
“I remember he was supposed to say something mean to me in one of the backstage segments that was going on live. And it was LIVE, but he didn’t say the mean thing. He hit on me.”
“That was so cool. It was not in the script, but he took care of me, and I felt that was really, really nice. And I don’t know, it just [evolved]. Yeah. We were friends first, dating other people. And then at one point, we were single at the same time, and a part of me was like, ‘Who knows? Let’s give it a shot!’ Then I blinked, and we were married in like, two months or something.”
AJ also reflected on the moment she knew she was going to marry Punk when she added, “But I do remember, when we were just friends with zero romantic interest, we were talking at a restaurant one time, and he was saying that he knows he is never getting married; a weird voice in my head went, ‘You’re going to marry me.'”
