Fans waited a long time for AJ Lee to return and the former Divas Champion finally stepped into the ring for the first time in over a decade at WrestlePalooza over the weekend. AJ Lee teamed up with CM Punk to face Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins in a mixed tag team match, and AJ picked up the victory for her team when she made Becky tap out to the Black Widow.
Fightful Select reports that the backstage reaction to AJ Lee’s return match was very positive. Those in WWE who spoke on the subject said that they thought AJ Lee did very well.
It’s also being reported that Becky Lynch was heavily credited for her performance. A longtime WWE name noted that Lynch has helped lead many wrestlers through matches when they’ve come back after long absences, and they feel that she did well.
AJ Lee recently shared her thoughts on her return match when she posted the following on social media:
“A chaotic fairytale so far. I’m proud of myself for being scared but doing it anyway, after ten years of retirement, on one month’s notice. I guess I still got it. I’m so grateful to Rebecca, Colby, Jess, TJ, and my hot husband Phil for taking such good care of me. And Larry for sharing his dressing room. I’m feeling all the love and support from you guys, my wonderful weirdos, it means the world.”
