Last week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown aired live from Chicago, IL and the show featured the return of the one and only AJ Lee. The former Divas Champion got physical with Becky Lynch as she attacked The Man during the main event segment. SmackDown then went off the air with AJ Lee embracing her husband CM Punk.
This week AJ Lee made her first appearance on Monday Night Raw in over 10 years and she skipped to the ring with Becky Lynch’s WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship around her waist. AJ grabbed a mic and she took a moment to soak up the adulation from the fans as they chanted “welcome back!”
She introduced herself as “your favorite wrestler’s, favorite wrestler” and the fans chanted “AJ Lee.” AJ got emotional as she explained that she retired because she thought she had done all she could do in wrestling. She added that she had to go on a mental health journey, and get right. AJ told the fans she went to therapy and the fans chanted “therapy.”
AJ said she tuned into Monday Night Raw and she saw her husband in the ring with Becky Lynch. The former Divas Champion explained that she wanted to like Becky, and they could have been friends, but Becky put her hands on her husband.
Becky’s music hit and The Man made her way out. Lynch told AJ that this has nothing to do with her “stank a**” husband. Becky got angry as she pointed out that AJ was wearing her title. The fans chanted “you suck” and Becky said she’s going to need to go to therapy after this.
AJ joked that she completely forget she was wearing the title because she’s just been skipping around in it. She took the belt off and challenged Becky to step into the ring and get it. Becky hesitated as the fans chanted “chicken.” She asked where CM Punk is and the fans started chanting his name.
Becky called Seth out to join her and he tried to calm her down. Seth tried to convince AJ to give the title back, but AJ said she has a better idea. She said Becky can come to the ring and take the title back, or she will give Becky the title if she agrees to a mixed tag team match.
Seth Rollins got in the ring then tried to grab the belt, but AJ blocked him. CM Punk appeared behind Becky Lynch then ran into the ring. He tried to hit Rollins with the GTS. Rollins managed to get out of it and slide away. Rollins told them if they want a match they got it.
CM Punk and AJ Lee vs. Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch was then confirmed for WrestlePalooza on September 20th. AJ Lee threw the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship out of the ring and Becky picked it up.
