In the world of professional wrestling a good entrance theme goes a long way, but over the last few years fans have criticized a number of themes that have been produced by Def Rebel.
Fightful Select is reporting that WWE are aware of the backlash from fans and they are monitoring the reaction. However, as of earlier this year there was no plan for them to be replaced.
While speaking with several WWE talents who are using Def Rebel produced theme songs Corey Brennan of Fightful was met with frustration across the board regarding the themes. It’s being said that several talents expressed negativity regarding their current entrance theme.
It’s being said that many talent were never told why their music changed from the CFO$ era even though they asked. Talent who spoke on the subject noted that they haven’t had any direct contact with Def Rebel.
Sources who spoke to Sean Ross Sapp said that they hadn’t heard about any plans imminent plans to utilize more licensed music for theme songs. Wrestlers who inquired about the rumors were told in some cases there could be issues with long-term clearances.
Prior to Def Rebel, WWE worked with CFO$, but there were publishing issues between the members of CFO$. WWE tried to buy them out of their deal, and the offer was rejected by their publisher. WWE had hopes of bringing CFO$ in house before the talks came to stand still and eventually ran out.
CFO$ reportedly had a non-compete with their publisher and then disbanded. with one member of the duo leaving music. While not confirmed the word is that WWE owned the publishing rights to music produced by Jim Johnston and Def Rebel, but only 50 percent of the themes produced by CFO$.
