There’s something special about the three person stable. When you take three different people who have the same goal, it can move mountains. Lets take a look at 3 of the best wrestling has offered us from the past and present:
NEW WORLD ORDER: (PAST)
A group with the goal to take over their promotion has been done countless times but no three man faction came as close as the original members of the NEW WORLD ORDER. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall came into WCW as “free agents.” Nobody knew why they were their at first but they made their goals crystal clear when they added their mystery partner resident baby face Hulk Hogan. Hogan shocked the world when he joined forces with the rebellious tag team, solidifying his first big run as a heel. The NWO helped the WCW wage a ratings war against the WWE. Really putting their stamp on the history of wrestling, they defaced the World Heavyweight Championship that Hogan had won. Using a can of black spray paint, Hulk painted “NWO” on the big gold belt. They almost conquered WCW as a whole when they added many other big name talents to their faction which eventually gained them enough power to hold their own Pay Per View. The NWO is possibly the greatest faction to ever take form and it all started with the Outsiders and Hollywood Hulk Hogan.
THE SHIELD: (PRESENT TOGETHER OR NOT THEY ARE THE PRESENT)
Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns had an immediate impact during their debut. The three mercenaries interfered during the Triple Threat at Survivor Series between CM Punk, Ryback and John Cena. Ambrose, Reigns and Rollins would triple powerbomb Ryback through the announce table allowing Punk to gain the pin-fall victory over Cena to keep his title. They would announce that they were the Shield against injustice in the WWE. The Shield remained undefeated from December 2012 to May of 2013. Further solidifying their dominance, all three members of the Shield would go on to win gold at the Extreme Rules PPV. Ambrose taking home the United States title, while Reigns and Rollins would capture tag team gold. Some of the best 6 man tag matches of all time took place when the Shield would square off against The Wyatt Family. With Rollins turning his back on his Shield brethren, the Shield is on hold for now, while the three former members look to garner singles attention. Even after the split however, the Shield still dominates WWE television. Reigns is in line for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and the Ambrose/Rollins feud is some of the most engaging television that WWE has put together in recent memory. So whether together or not, the Shield is very much the present of WWE and most likely the future. Still all relatively young, there is always a chance for a reunion and when that happens, the entire roster will be on notice. Believe that and believe in the Shield.
The Wyatt Family: (FUTURE)
Is there any Superstar that commands attention more when he is speaking than the leader of the Wyatt Family? Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan have made every other superstar look over their backs since their debut. Bray has done some of the best promo work we have seen in a long time. To some it may sound like he is just babbling but when you listen close, he’s actually furthering along the story he’s telling for whoever his opponent is at the time. What Bray lacks in the ring his cronies completely make up for. Luke Harper is probably the most agile and dangerous big man in the WWE at present date. His partner Rowan comes off as someone who only knows how to punch your face in. This three man team has it all. They can tell stories, have a great entrance and really come off as three guys who can realistically kick your ass and don’t need any reason for it. They’ve taken on the absolute top of the card, often facing off with John Cena, Daniel Bryan, Kane and The Shield. Although they are all yet to hold gold, you can rest assure their time is coming. The Wyatt Family has so much more to offer us and the WWE is yet to really dig into the stories these three could tell. It seems they are lost in the shuffle as of late but look for them to really break out soon. The cream always rises to the top and Bray Wyatt and his family have what it takes to be main event caliber guys for years to come.
