Last year Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble and he vowed to challenge Roman Reigns and finish the story at WrestleMania 39. Ultimately Cody Rhodes was unable to defeat The Tribal Chief on the Grandest Stage of Them All, but he has declared for the Royal Rumble once again this year.
There’s certainly no shortage of fans who would like to see Cody Rhodes get his rematch with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. However, The Rock recently returned to WWE and teased a match with The Tribal Chief which left fans to wonder if The Great One’s return could have an impact on a possible Rhodes vs. Reigns rematch.
The Rock isn’t the only big name who has returned to WWE recently as CM Punk also made a comeback in November. Cody Rhodes recently spoke to Sports Illustrated about the big returns while making it clear that he’s focused on making sure he gets a title match with Roman Reigns.
“The Rock is The Great One–he’s still electrifying. CM Punk is one of the greatest stars in the history of wrestling. I know what I’m up against. Look at the roster–it’s loaded with stars. But that doesn’t bother me. I’m not flinching. I’m not rooting against anyone else, I’m just working to make it happen.”
