CM Punk’s AEW contract was officially terminated last month and ever since then wrestling fans have been talking about Punk possibly returning to WWE. It’s been rumored that the two sides were in talks, but Fightful recently released a report claiming that WWE currently has no plans to bring Punk back.
Dave Meltzer discussed the CM Punk situation on Wrestling Observer Radio and noted that WWE turned CM Punk down. According to Meltzer the company weighed the pros and cons of bringing CM Punk back and decided that the negatives outweighed the positives.
“They [WWE] turned CM Punk down. He wanted to go there and the decision was a no. It can always change, and it was brought up that there’s no such thing as ‘no forever’ when it comes to WWE but it’s no for now. That was the decision that was made. It’s Vince’s decision. Vince, Nick Khan, Paul [Triple H] Levesque, and obviously they decided that the negatives outweighed the positives.”
Meltzer added that things could always change, and the CM Punk card is a card that WWE could always play if needed in the future. In the past the company has shown that they’re willing to do business with talent they were once on bad terms with such as Bret Hart, Goldberg and Ultimate Warrior. Only time will tell if WWE decides to change their stance on Punk.
