Last week it was confirmed that CM Punk’s contract with AEW has been terminated and now the wrestling world can’t help but wonder where CM Punk will go from here. WWE seems like an obvious destination provided the company is open to working with Punk again, but that’s far from a guarantee given CM Punk’s history with World Wrestling Entertainment.

During a recent episode of his Oh You Didn’t Know? podcast Road Dogg briefly discussed Punk’s status and noted that he just doesn’t think right now is even the right time to explore the idea of a possible return for the former WWE Champion.

“I am the wrong guy to ask — that is the truth. Because I cannot hire nor fire — that is out of sight of my paygrade. I did mention recently that he would move the needle [by returning to WWE], but truth be told, that comment was made a long time ago … or whenever that was. It just doesn’t seem like the right time to even talk about it, you know? Things are happening in real-time; God only knows what’s going to come out at the end of this.”

While some people from the wrestling world have criticized Tony Khan for giving a speech where he said he feared for his safety during a backstage incident involving CM Punk, Road Dogg explained why he understands where Tony was coming from.

“I understand where he’s coming from. I think people need to understand that, to some people, that [backstage brawl] wouldn’t be frightening — like Samoa Joe, who popped up whenever whatever happened. Some people run towards the fire and some run away screaming. That’s just the way it works.”
