King of the Ring was an annual event for years and it’s been rumored that the show is set to return in 2023. PWInsider is now reporting that current plans call for WWE to hold King and Queen of the Ring from Saudi Arabia as part of the company’s long term contract with the country.
Current plans for King and Queen of the Ring are to hold the show on 5/27 at King Abdullah International Stadium in Jeddah. It looks like WWE will be holding two premium live events in May as it was recently reported that Backlash is expected to take place that month as well, but the location for Backlash has not been confirmed just yet.
King of the Ring was its own event from 1993 to 2002. In later years the King of the Ring was not something that WWE used consistently but the tournament has been held on other WWE branded shows.
The last King of the Ring tournament was held in 2021 and the finals took place at the Crown Jewel premium live event. Xavier Woods won the King of the Ring tournament and Zelina Vega won the inaugural Queen’s Crown tournament, but it appears that Queen’s Crown is being rebranded to Queen of the Ring.
