There’s no denying that the backstage drama in AEW has been a hot topic ever since the All Out pay-per-view aired last month. CM Punk, Ace Steel and The Elite were involved in a physical altercation which led to several names getting suspended, and Ace Steel eventually getting released.
Now everyone is waiting to see what the future holds for CM Punk as it was recently reported that AEW is in talks to buy out Punk’s contract with the company.
Wade Keller addressed the situation on his Focus On AEW special, and he noted that Tony Khan seems to be siding more with The Elite when he said, “Tony is siding with Kenny and The Bucks more than Punk.”
However, Keller also noted that from a creative standpoint it seems that Tony Khan is more interested in what could be done with CM Punk rather than The Elite.
“There are times when Tony would have wanted to side with Punk over the Bucks and Kenny in terms of him as a wrestling fan, thinking about what he could do with Punk — the matches that haven’t happened yet, the promos that haven’t happened yet, the storylines that haven’t happened yet. I think he’s not as enamored as with what’s left to do with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.”
According to Keller this is not something Tony Khan has confirmed to him, but rather what he’s been told from people in AEW. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
