Rey Mysterio has been wrestling for decades now, but even Rey knows that he’s not going to be able to wrestle forever. Sooner or later ever wrestler’s career has to come to an end, and it sounds like Mysterio is getting ready to hang his boots up sooner than later.
The former WWE Champion discussed the future of his in-ring career during an appearance on Rasslin with Brandon Walker, and he noted that he’s going to be taking a step back once his son Dominik is ready to stand on his own.
“I think I’ll step back once I feel like my son is ready to just take off on his own. I’m hoping that happens within this year for him to branch out and just take care of things on his own. I’ve had the opportunity to be on the same house shows as him, me wrestling in a completely separate match and him wrestling by himself.
A couple of times he wrestled Chad Gable. Other times he wrestled Otis one on one. I can see the difference when I’m not in there with him and when we’re in there together. He tends to do a lot better and I think it’s less stressful and not that much pressure when he’s in there by himself. He enjoys it.”
Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio will both have their opportunity to earn a title shot at WrestleMania 38 when they enter the 30 man Royal Rumble match tonight. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
