John Cena is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam this weekend and he came face to face with The Tribal Chief during last week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
During his promo Cena made a surprising reference when he mentioned former WWE Superstar Dean Ambrose, now known as Jon Moxley in AEW. The 16 time WWE World Champion told Roman that he, “almost ruined Seth Rollins,” and “ran Dean Ambrose out of WWE.”
Seth Rollins recently spoke to Sportskeeda about John Cena’s attention grabbing promo, and he noted that he would do the same thing if he was in John Cena’s position.
“(Laughs) I had a good chuckle about it,” Rollins said. “John likes to cross some lines occasionally if you look at his history of promos in the ring, especially his face-to-face promos heading into big matches. He likes to cross the line.”
“He’s gotta do his thing. He wants to use my mouth to fit his narrative. And that’s fine. That’s his prerogative. I would do the same thing if I was in his position with his name. That’s the nature of the business. That’s how we sell tickets. And that’s how we get people like you talking. So, I appreciate the question but I’m the only one who has Seth Rollins’ fate in his hands, so to speak.”
John Cena will challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam on Saturday while Seth Rollins will face off against Edge at the pay-per-view. Stay tuned for updates.
