John Cena appearances on WWE programming are few and far between nowadays, but at one point Cena was the face of the company.
When it comes to WWE Cena has done it all, as he’s a 16 time WWE World Champion, and he’s main evented WrestleMania with some of the biggest names in the industry.
On a recent episode of Grilling JR, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross talked about his time as the Senior Vice President of Talent Relations, and he also talked about meeting with John Cena in 2000.
Ross was high on Cena, and he went straight to Vince McMahon to declare that he thought of the up and comer as a future WrestleMania main eventer.
“I told him, ‘I’ve agreed to terms with a WrestleMania main-eventer in five years.’ He looked at me like I was delirious. He said something kind of benign and he said, ‘Now go home, take a shower and come back to work.’”
It seems that Jim Ross was right about this one, as Cena went on to win his first WWE Championship at WrestleMania 21 in 2005, and he went on to successfully defend the belt against Triple H a year later at WrestleMania 22.
