For many years John Cena was the face of the WWE, and he rose to fame after people started paying attention to his Doctor of Thuganomics gimmick.
Cena would verbally attack his opponents by rapping, and the gimmick quickly caught on with the fans.
When John Cena was drafted to Raw in 2005 he moved away from the Doctor of Thuganomics persona, and during an episode of WWE’s Ruthless Aggression series he explained why he stopped rapping.
“I had a personality that attached to the people who were watching, but then slowly the people who were watching changed and they began to be more kids and more families to come to these events. And I saw it happen. I didn’t need a sheet of analytics. I can see it. So I said, this is it. We’re changing up right now. I remember going into Vince’s office and said, ‘I have to stop rapping.'”
Cena brought back his Doctor of Thuganomics persona for a special appearance at WrestleMania 35 last year, much to the delight of the fans.
Although it’s not exactly clear who he’ll be facing at this point in time, Cena is expected to be involved with a major match at WrestleMania 36.
