Whether it’s Money in the Bank, Brawl For All or Big Show competing as a sumo wrestler, WrestleMania has always been home to some form of special attraction match. Last year it was the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal but what will it be this year? No one knows at this point but here are 5 suggestions for special attraction matches we would like to see at WrestleMania 31.
#5 – Fatal 4 Way Elimination Match To Determine A Number 1 Contender
A match to determine the number 1 contender for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? Putting the number 1 contendership on the line at the biggest event of the year would definitely raise the stakes and doing it in a fatal 4 way match would give the audience plenty of action to keep them interested.
This is a great way to give some of the top guys who didn’t make it to the main event something to fight for. Imagine a fatal 4 way featuring Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose all trying to tear each other apart as they fight for the right to go after the richest prize in the industry. Who wouldn’t want to watch that?
#4 – NXT Championship Match
The idea of having the NXT Championship defended at WrestleMania seems to be a hot topic as of late. Some people are for it while others are adamantly against it. Whether you’re for it or against it, one thing’s for sure and that is that the match would bring something unique to the WrestleMania card. NXT wrestlers just have a different style when it comes to telling a story in the ring and it would be a great way to introduce fans who are unaware of its existence to the brand.
#3 – A Battle Royal
The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal was a huge success last year and it could be this year as well. There’s no indication that WWE will be holding this match again at WrestleMania 31 but it could definitely work two years in a row. The best thing about the match is that it gives performers that normally wouldn’t get their chance to shine at WrestleMania a chance to show the world what they can do.
Obviously if WWE goes to the well one too many times with this one it runs the risk of becoming less special. But there’s certainly no reason why WWE couldn’t do this two years in a row and after the success of last year’s battle royal the audience would surely be looking forward to seeing another one.
#2 – Tag Team TLC
Let’s face it, the WWE tag team division is a far cry from what it used to be. Teams come and go so often nowadays that they very rarely make an impact. WWE’s tag team division is in desperate need of something that will put them on the map and a TLC match at WrestleMania just might do the trick.
Tag team TLC matches worked wonders for the now legendary tag teams of The Attitude Era. This match format made teams like The Hardy Boyz, The Dudley Boyz and Edge & Christian household names and it could very easily do the same thing for today’s top teams. The Usos are known for pulling out all the stops when the occasion calls for it and Tyson Kidd/Cesaro are hungry. Throw one or two more teams into the mix and you could have a match capable of stealing the show right here.
It’s been a long time since the tag team division had a legit opportunity to show the world what they can do on wrestling’s biggest stage. Maybe this year is the year to give the division that chance.
#1 – King Of The Ring
Fans have been begging for King of the Ring to return for quite some time now so why not use it at WrestleMania? WWE seems to have no plans to bring the tournament back as its own pay-per-view, but the tournament could take place on Raw during the weeks prior to WrestleMania. Having the King of the Ring tournament play out over several weeks on Raw would give people more incentive to watch and would be a good way to give some of the filler segments on the show a purpose.
Having the King of the Ring tournament culminate in one final match at WrestleMania is a great way to make a new star. During WrestleMania the world is watching and all eyes are on WWE. The fans want King of the Ring back in some form and WrestleMania needs some sort of gimmick match as a special attraction. Putting King of the Ring and WrestleMania together on one pay-per-view could be a match made in wrestling heaven.
NXT Championship match would probably be something i’d err on the side of.
Promoting the quality of the development talent and their exclusivity on the network would be advised.
Your missing a fantastic weekly show, 2 including Main Event, and paying too much for this PPV if you don’t already have the network!
