Each WrestleMania has certain key moments that stick with the event long after the dust has settled. WrestleMania 32 has come and gone, and now the show is in the history books. Some people loved it, some people hated it, and others are somewhere in the middle. It’s an event that will surely be a hot topic among wrestling fans in the coming weeks, months and years. Let’s take a look at a few moments from WrestleMania 32 that could potentially stand the test of time, for better or worse.
#5 – AJ Styles Loses His First WrestleMania Match
For a while it seemed like it was never going to happen, but AJ Styles made his WrestleMania debut this year and it was a surreal moment. WWE has been promoting AJ Styles as a big deal and he had a lot of momentum heading into his first WrestleMania. It seemed like a no brainer for AJ to take home the win in his first ever WrestleMania match, but in the end it was Chris Jericho who walked away with the victory.
The finish was confusing to say the least because Chris Jericho spends most of his time putting people over and Styles needed the victory a whole lot more than Jericho did. Did WWE make the right call by having Chris Jericho defeat AJ Styles in his first ever WrestleMania match? The answer to that question will definitely be debated when people look back on this event.
#4 – Women’s Wrestling Finally Arrives At WrestleMania
It’s been a long time coming but women’s wrestling finally arrived at WrestleMania. There was a lot of hype behind the triple threat match and it did not disappoint. Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch put on what was arguably the best match on the card and it was the culmination of everything the Divas Revolution was supposed to be.
WWE did a great job with how they presented the women this year at WrestleMania and the introduction of the new WWE Women’s Championship belt was long overdue. Charlotte, Sasha and Becky walked into WrestleMania 32 with intentions to steal the show and they succeeded. Years from now this match will be looked back on as a game-changing moment for women’s wrestling.
#3 – The Main Event
This year’s WrestleMania main event was one of the most polarizing main events in WrestleMania history. It was a match that a large portion of the fans just didn’t want to see and it wasn’t met with a warm response by the crowd in attendance. WWE wants the audience to accept Roman so badly, but for two years in a row now Roman Reigns has been booed in the WrestleMania main event.
Despite their best efforts, Reigns and Triple H just couldn’t get the crowd into it the way they wanted to. History probably won’t be kind to this match and unfortunately it will likely be looked back on as one of the more awkward WrestleMania main events.
#2 – The Rock Announces A Record And Breaks A Record
The Rock made an appearance at this year’s WrestleMania and most fans were expecting him to cut a promo, tell a few jokes and leave. But WWE had The Rock announce that WrestleMania 32 set a new attendance record of 101,763.
Although WWE touted an attendance of over 100,000 for the event, it was reported by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, via AT&T Stadium officials that the actual number was closer to 94,000. WWE likes to exaggerate when it comes to their numbers, and they’ll be reminding us constantly that WrestleMania 32 drew 101,763 people regardless of whether or not that number is legitimate. The attendance for WrestleMania 32 will be debated for years to come in the same way that the attendance record for WrestleMania 3 has been for the last three decades.
Rock then shocked the world by competing in an impromptu match which saw The Great One defeat Erick Rowan in only 6 seconds. The Rock set a new WrestleMania record, but some fans aren’t thrilled about the fact that he did it at the expense of Erick Rowan.
Looking back on the past three WrestleManias it’s not hard to see that the event has been less than kind to The Wyatt Family. Although some people will remember this segment because The Rock announced a record and broke a record, others will remember it as another unfortunate blemish on The Wyatt Family’s WrestleMania career.
#1 – Shane McMahon’s Insane Elbow Drop From The Top Of The Cage
Everyone expected Shane McMahon to do something crazy at WrestleMania 32 and he dropped all of our jaws when he jumped from the top of the Hell in a Cell only to land on an empty announce table. Shane has a highlight reel of epic stunts from his career and this one is definitely going into the rotation.
The clip of Shane McMahon falling through the air as he comes crashing down on the announce table is something that will be watched over and over and over and over again by people around the world. Out of all the great moments that the show had to offer, this is the moment that will most likely become synonymous with WrestleMania 32.
