The main event of tonight’s television taping was a women’s battle royal to determine the #1 contender for the NXT Women’s Title. Asuka has been running roughshod through the NXT women’s division and hasn’t had much of a challenge in a while. Nobody can deny The Empress Of Tomorrow is an amazing talent. But, she’s been winning using some nefarious means recently. There are a few women vying to be her next challenger. So a battle royal was the best way to determine who would face Asuka at NXT TakeOver: Chicago.

There were a couple women to enter the match who surprised the NXT crowd.

The battle royal was full of intense competition and a heck of a lot of close calls. The match eventually came down to four competitors. Asuka ran out and caused some interference in the match to say the least.

This falls in line with the way they’ve been booking Asuka recently. She’s been really going the heel route as of late and it looks like they’re going to run with it. Asuka might have had a good idea in destroying everyone left in the match. But some ideas are better left as just ideas.

William Regal came out and as it turns out, it might not have been the best idea for Asuka to act so rashly.

Therefore we’re going to have a Fatal 4-Way match for the NXT Women’s Title at TakeOver: Chicago. This isn’t the first time Asuka has defended her championship in a multiple-person environment. But it very well might be the one of her most difficult challenges to date.

At this point, the updated card for NXT TakeOver: Chicago is looking pretty great. Here is a list of the current card so far:

NXT Championship Match

Bobby Roode vs Hideo Itami

NXT Tag Team Championship – Ladder Match

The Authors Of Pain vs Team #DIY

NXT Women’s Championship – Fatal 4-Way Match

Asuka vs Ember Moon vs Nikki Cross vs Ruby Riot
