XFL Making Huge TV Announcement Today

Over the last few months the XFL has made many big announcements regarding the 2020 season.

Host cities and head coaches have been announced for the league’s teams and everyone has been wondering where the XFL will end up in regards to TV.

Sports Business Daily is reporting that more than half of the league’s games will be broadcast on TV, and deals with Fox and ESPN will be announced today.

“Spring football is going to work,” said ESPN Exec VP/Programming & Scheduling Burke Magnus. “The combination of Vince McMahon, WWE, Fox and Disney is an incredible one to take a really hard run at this and see if that’s not the combination that finally makes it work.”

The multi-year deal reportedly calls for 24 of the XFL’s 43 games to be on broadcast TV. 13 of the games will air on ABC, with 11 games airing on Fox.

As part of the deal the networks won’t be paying rights fees, but will contribute $400,000 toward production costs for each game.

The XFL will handle sponsorships at the venues, with the networks selling ads on TV, and the networks holding streaming rights to the games.

The networks will cross promote the games, and the schedule will see two back to back games air on Saturday afternoons with two more games on Sundays, and two Thursday primetime games will air on Fox.

Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
