Fans have been anxiously awaiting the released of WWE 2K22, but on Saturday night at SummerSlam it was announced that the game will not be released until March of next year.
Sports Gamers Online reports that multiple sources at 2K Sports, developer Visual Concepts, and beyond are claiming that there are multiple high level decisions being made that are causing concern.
It’s also being reported that there’s infighting regarding the direction of the game, and that WWE and 2K have been going back and forth on pushing the release date back ever since the game was first announced.
People within WWE wanted the game to be released around Survivor Series, but 2K Sports and Visual Concepts reportedly pushed hard for the game to be delayed.
One of the reasons for the delay has to do with the amount of releases over the last year with one source saying “this is shaping up to be the most outdated roster a game has seen.” WWE 2K22 will include “a large amount” of wrestlers who are no longer with the company, but the delay gives the developers time to adjust and add new wrestlers WWE may want in the game.
WWE has been more difficult to deal with this time around because the company lost money due to the poor reception WWE 2K20 received, and it’s being made clear that they want a better product this time around.
