Roman Reigns has been on the receiving end of a major push for a few years now, but despite WWE’s efforts, the fans have resisted his push.
Reigns still gets a mixed reaction just about everywhere he goes, but nevertheless the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that current plans still call for Roman to be Brock Lesnar’s next challenger.
The current storyline with Brock Lesnar’s contract negotiations breaking down is being set up as a another way to try and get Reigns over with the fans.
The plan is to make it look like Lesnar is leaving and taking his title to UFC with the idea that Brock doesn’t care about the company, or the fans, but only about himself.
The story being told with Roman is that everyone is telling him to step aside and let someone else challenge Brock because he’s already blown his previous opportunities.
The idea is to make it look like no one believes in Roman Reigns but himself, which could portray him as a sympathetic character, or at the very least a character who will hopefully earn the respect of the fans if he wins.
WWE already tried a similar angle on the Road to WrestleMania with Reigns and Lesnar this year, but in the end the fans still booed Roman at WrestleMania.
This week on Raw it was hinted that we will likely see a Bobby Lashley vs. Roman Reigns match with the winner going on to challenge Brock Lesnar for the title.
Brock Lesnar still hasn’t been confirmed for SummerSlam, but it’s being said that the title match will take place at at event of Vince McMahon’s choosing, and the result will be what McMahon wants.
