WWE Women’s Tournament Named After Female Hall Of Famer

A WWE Women’s Tournament is long overdue at this point. WWE is way past the beginning of the women’s revolution and fans have heard rumors about a women’s tournament for a while now. WWE finally made the announcement about the tournament during the week of WrestleMania and fans were excited. The WWE Women’s Tournament is really happening.

WWE has been stocking up on some of the best pro wrestlers throughout the world, including women. They recently signed Kairi Hojo and Io Shirai to contracts and that was big news. NXT is also working on the women stars of tomorrow with names like Ember Moon, Nikki Cross, and Ruby Riot. Let’s never forget about the Empress Of Tomorrow, Asuka.

The roster in WWE’s developmental division goes even deeper when considering women like Aliyah who has been at it for a while. If you remember, she was featured in WWE’s Breaking Ground docuseries that they should really do another season of.

Other future females stars are in the pipeline like Liv Morgan, Sonya Deville, and Lacey Evans in NXT. Needless to say, WWE has more talented females pro wrestlers than they have ever had before. That doesn’t even include the fierce females on the main roster either.

Therefore it is natural that we should be excited about the prospect of a WWE Women’s Tournament. If the stakes couldn’t be high enough WWE recently christened this tournament as the Mae Young Classic.

Mae Young might be best known as her time alongside the Fabulous Moolah in the Attitude Era when she wanted to show her puppies and gave birth to a rubber hand. But in her day Mae Young was one of the most dominate female scrappers in the land. Her time in the ring was extraordinary and this tournament should be honored to be named after her.

Mae Young sadly passed away in 2014 and this is a great ode to her memory. Mae would have been all about a tournament like this. It would have been hard to keep her out of the ring if she were still with us. So tune in on July 13th and 14th for some of the best women’s wrestling the world has to offer. We’re excited about it.
