CM Punk and WWE haven’t been getting along much recently. Since Punk walked out of WWE after the 2014 Royal Rumble, there has been a lot of animosity between the two sides.
Shortly after leaving WWE, CM Punk appeared on Colt Cabana’s Art Of Wrestling podcast for an epic two-part episode where he discussed why he decided to leave Vince’s Circus Of Suplexes. CM Punk talked down about WWE Creative as well as their medical staff. Punk didn’t give any names when telling his story about how he wrestled with a MRSA infection, but Dr. Chris Amann still stepped up to sue both Punk and Cabana.
The Dirty Sheets is reporting Colt Cabana has told people WWE is trying to make CM Punk “waste” money on legal fees in order to force peace talks between the two sides. According to the report, WWE is using this tactic in hopes that they can get CM Punk to sit down at the negotiating table and talk about a potential return.
Punk and Cabana have been ordered to pay $250,000 in order to get the discovery investigation going on their case. This means in order to get into WWE’s emails and see what they might or might not have been saying about Punk’s MRSA infection, they have to spend some serious money.
Colt Cabana has said he can’t afford to go in on that amount of money, but CM Punk can. However, regardless of how much money Punk has it would still hurt his bottom line considerably.
If WWE can force peace talks in this case it could potentially lead to a return to the ring for CM Punk. He seems happy doing what he’s doing right now while training for his next fight. But there hasn’t been any sort of word about who Punk could fight next or what promotion would even host such a contest.
After Punk’s UFC 203 first round loss to Mickey Gall his UFC options might be drying up. After all, he hasn’t fought in a year.
Who knows what WWE’s true motivation is behind this lawsuit. But if Punk is correct in saying WWE is bankrolling Dr. Chris Amann’s lawsuit against him then there could be plenty more legal hurdles to leap over before this is said and done if some kind of detente can’t be reached.
