Last weekend WrestleMania 39 took place across two nights at SoFi Stadium, and Edge defeated Finn Balor in a Hell in a Cell match during the second night. Edge has had a very successful run since he returned to the ring in 2020, but he has acknowledged that his career is likely coming to an end sooner than later, and he’s said that he would like to retire in Toronto.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that behind the scenes there was talk of Edge and Christian wanting to team together for one last match or run. However, it’s not clear if that would be possible as Christian is currently signed to All Elite Wrestling and details regarding the length of his contract are unknown.
When Edge returned to WWE back in 2020 he signed a three year deal with the company for $3 million a year. It’s being said that Edge’s contract was likely extended because of the time he missed due to injury, but it would be up later this year.
Christian made his surprise return to the ring at the 2021 Royal Rumble, and he briefly reunited with Edge during the match. He went on to sign with AEW in March of 2021. During this week’s episode of Dynamite he was shown in a backstage vignette with Luchasaurus.
One way or another it will be interesting to see how Edge wraps up his career and who he will end up working with before he hangs up the boots for good. Stay tuned for updates.
