The Rock has been making regular appearances on SmackDown in recent weeks and he’s been using profanity in his promos. The promos have gotten people talking on social media, and it looks like people are also talking about The Rock’s non-PG promos behind the scenes as well.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there has been talk among talent and some outside with some frustration regarding the double standard when it comes to The Rock. It was noted that there will always be a double standard when it comes to someone with The Rock’s star power, and the double standard exists in Hollywood as well.
One person noted that The Rock does what he wants and since he’s on the TKO Board of Directors no one is going to say anything to him. Rock also reportedly has an entire team of representatives, so they handle any issues while he stays out of the mess.
It’s being reported that one person noted the feeling was that the era of Vince McMahon having double standards for his hand picked stars was over, but then The Rock showed up and it’s exactly the same. People like John Cena, Roman Reigns, The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar and The Bloodline always had different standards under Vince McMahon, but The Rock has taken it farther.
Some people reportedly complained that they could get more traction with their TV promos and on social media if the handcuffs were off of them, but the handcuffs are only off for The Rock.
The Rock will not be appearing on Friday Night SmackDown this week, but he has been confirmed for the April 1 episode of Monday Night Raw at the Barclays Center.
