This week on Monday Night Raw, The Usos successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles against Riddle and Kevin Owens, and the winners of the match were originally set to face Sheamus and Drew McIntyre on Friday Night SmackDown.
However, Drew McIntyre took to Twitter to announce that he would not be part of the title match on Friday because he’s medically disqualified from competing. WWE later confirmed that Butch will be his replacement.
Dave Meltzer addressed Drew McIntyre’s status on Wrestling Observer Radio and he noted that Drew still wanted to wrestle despite the fact that he’s currently dealing with an injury.
“He is injured. I was told an injury, but it’s not from a firsthand source. But he’s supposed to be back for the Christmas show. So it’s only a couple of weeks, I know that. The only thing I know is that he wanted to wrestle and they would not let him wrestle. But it’s not like it’s going to be a long-term thing, at least as it stands right now.
“But yes, he was basically medically pulled from Friday’s show and Butch will team with Sheamus against the Usos for the tag team title.”
Stay tuned for more updates on Drew McIntyre’s status as they become available.
