The Greatest Royal Rumble took place in Saudi Arabia on Friday, and during the event Ariya Daivari participated in a segment which also involved his brother, former WWE Superstar Shawn Daivari.
During the show the Daivari brothers confronted some new WWE recruits from Saudi Arabia, and they told them they real athletes come from Iran.
The segment didn’t go over very well with some fans, as Ariya Daivari has since taken to Twitter to say that he’s been receiving death threats following the Greatest Royal Rumble.
The 205 Live star issued a statement clarifying that he was simply playing a character, and the statement reads as follows:
“During an appearance this past Friday, I portrayed a fictional character and played the role of the antagonist, no different than what other actors would do in a movie or TV show.
That character does not reflect my personal views and I apologize to anyone that may have been offended by the skit. I have an incredible amount of respect for the great people of Iran and I am very proud of my Iranian heritage.
Thank you.”

A fan then responded to the statement by saying that he doesn’t think Daivari should have to apologize for playing a role on TV, and that’s when the WWE Superstar said that he’s been receiving threats against his life.
Unfortunately some people took offense to this despite it being pure entertainment. Some threats were made against my life. I wanted to put this statement out to clarify where I as a person stand compared to my t.v. character. https://t.co/NJbnlMnn28
