It’s certainly not uncommon for WWE to change the names of wrestlers and it looks like that’s exactly what has happened to former NXT Champion Robert Roode.
Fightful Select reports that internally Robert Roode went from being listed as “Robert” to “Bobby.” It’s not clear exactly why the name was changed, but it was also noted that in the past Vince McMahon insisted that “Petey” Williams be called “Pete.”
Bobby Roode was working backstage as a producer this week and it’s being reported that he produced the Damian Priest vs. Sami Zayn match on Monday Night Raw as well as the JD McDonagh vs. Akira Tozawa match that was taped for Main Event.
Following a successful run with Impact Wrestling, Bobby Roode signed with WWE in 2016 and became one of the top stars on the NXT brand. He was called up to the main roster in 2017 and he went on to win the United States Championship, Raw Tag Team Championship, SmackDown Tag Team Championship and WWE 24/7 Championship.
Bobby Roode has been out of action since last year and he has since undergone multiple neck surgeries. It was reported earlier this month that Bobby Roode would be working as a producer for WWE. Stay tuned for updates.
