Business has been picking up on the road to WrestleMania 39 and last week on SmackDown WWE held a fatal five way match to determine who will challenge Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

The match ended in controversy as Sheamus pinned Xavier Woods while Drew McIntyre pinned LA Knight, and both pins were counted by two separate referees. WWE followed up by announcing that Drew McIntyre and Sheamus will face off on SmackDown to determine who will face Gunther at WrestleMania. Sheamus recently hyped up the match and he referred to it as the main event for night 1 when he posted the following on Twitter:

“St. Patrick’s Day 2023. Kansas City. Drew McIntyre V Sheamus. Winner: IC Title Match Main Event at Wrestlemania 39 Day One.. Next Friday “Remember Murrayfield” #SCOvIRE #luckoftheirish”

As of this writing WWE has yet to confirm main events for either night, but it’s expected that Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns will main event night 2. WrestleMania 39 will air live from SoFi Stadium on April 1 and April 2 and the current card for the event can be seen below.
