WWE has made a number of changes to the announce teams over the last few years and now it seems that the company might have to switch things up once again in the months to come.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Pat McAfee will be back with ESPN’s College GameDay during football season. McAfee previously had to pull out of his announcing duties for WWE once the season started, and while it’s not confirmed, the expectation is that the same thing will happen this time around.
Pat McAfee first started working with WWE as a broadcaster in 2018. In 2021 it was announced that Pat McAfee would be serving as a color commentator alongside Michael Cole on the Friday Night SmackDown brand. The following year in 2022, Pat McAfee competed at WrestleMania 38 when he defeated Austin Theory. McAfee was then defeated by Vince McMahon in an impromptu match immediately after.
In the months that followed WrestleMania, Pat McAfee ended up feuding with Baron Corbin who he defeated at SummerSlam. In September of 2022 it was announced that McAfee would be taking a hiatus from WWE to focus on ESPN’s College GameDay. McAfee went on to make a few surprise appearances for WWE in 2023 before returning full-time in 2024 as part of the Raw commentary team alongside Michael Cole.
Stay tuned for more updates on Pat McAfee’s status as they become available.
